The reason so many batteries fail or melt down on the 600cc or 1000cc motorcycle engines is because the factory charging systems can put out too much or not enough voltage when charging the battery. Stock factory rectifiers vary greatly on the charging voltage output. 

The Hot Shot Rectifier for Lead Acid Batteries uses MOSFET technology to achieve a constant charging voltage set point of 14.7V +/-.2.
